Hebrews 11.1-12.2 - Steve McGuire
Many churches like ours have high regard for the teachings and methods of John Wesley. God used him to bring revival, evangelism, and social change to England in the 1700s. Later, Wesley’s preachers, like Francis Asbury were the circuit riders who brought the gospel to the American frontier. Central to Wesley’s message was the biblical emphasis that God could purify the heart, enabling one to love God completely and his neighbor as himself. God works through people and many of us are indebted to God’s work through Wesley for our own salvation.
Yesterday was Aldersgate Day, a memory to Wesley’s conversion to Christ. We thank God for what he did in the life of one Englishman nearly 300 years ago. Let’s ask God for an enlarged view of his saving work and make certain of his grace at work in us today.
