Seeing And Believing

John 2.1-11 - Steve McGuire

Lent is a time of prayer, penitence, fasting, and examination.  I encourage you to set aside special times for this over the next few weeks leading up to Holy Week.  I want us to take this aspect of the season very seriously. However, I was reminded this week that the Sundays of Lent are feast days.  These are times to celebrate the blessings of creation and redemption that are lavished on us in Christ—and rather than fast, we fill up!  So there is a proper tension in our movement toward the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ.  We remind ourselves that we journey with Christ to his cross and empty tomb and we prepare, we await the time to experience their power and grace in fresh new ways.  But at the same time we live as the people of the cross and resurrection right now.  And though we are seeking more of the benefit that comes from what Christ accomplished, we celebrate the wonderful abundance of benefits already enjoyed.
